Senja, Norway’s second-largest island, is renowned for its stunning scenery and thriving fishing industry. However, access to high-quality clean water has long been a challenge.
In the heart of Senja lies the Storelva water treatment plant, which draws water from a lake with high concentrations of natural organic matter (NOM). To ensure clean drinking water and water suitable for food production, a customized and advanced treatment solution is required.
Inrigo took on the task and delivered a complete, turnkey solution. The scope of the project included design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly including elekctrical automation and operational monitoring.
The heart of the plant is nanofiltration. Spiral-wound membranes effectively purify the water of organic matter, contaminants, and microorganisms. To protect these sensitive membranes, a pretreatment system with pressurized sand filtration and automatic micro screens was installed. And to guarantee absolute safety, UV disinfection provides an additional hygienic barrier. The plant is built with full redundancy, meaning it can continue to supply water even if a component fails.
The result is a modern facility that daily produces 3,120 cubic meters of drinking water. And since its start-up in May 2022, the Storelva plant has been delivering stable and safe water.
Senja, Norges nest største øy, er kjent for sin vakre natur og en blomstrende fiskeindustri. Tilgang til rent vann av høy kvalitet har imidlertid lenge vært en utfordring.
