Meets strict purification requirements in Rennebu

Projects

The new Berkåksmoen wastewater treatment plant in Rennebu municipality represents a significant advancement in the municipality’s handling of wastewater.

The facility, which became operational in 2023, replaces the old Berkåksmoen treatment plant and is designed to meet increasing discharges from both population and industry.

The new treatment plant is dimensioned to handle a maximum weekly load equivalent to 2,700 pe (population equivalents), in addition to receiving external sludge. This is a substantial upgrade from the previous plant, which was dimensioned for 1,000 pe. The facility is strategically located on a new site, separate from the old one, west of Berkåk and northeast of the Orkla river.

To meet strict purification requirements related to discharges into the Orkla river, the plant includes both phosphorus and nitrogen removal. The purification process comprises:

• Complete pre-treatment with screenings removal and sand and grease extraction
• Biological treatment stage based on SBR (Sequence Batch Reactor) with two reactors
• Complete sludge dewatering system and containers for sludge transport

Inrigo has supplied key components to the plant, including:

• Advanced process equipment for water and wastewater treatment, with membrane filtration and
‎ ㅤㅤㅤ biological purification processes
• Pumps and pumping stations for efficient transport and treatment of wastewater
• Dosing systems for chemicals used in the purification process

This project demonstrates Inrigo’s ability to deliver modern and efficient solutions for advanced wastewater treatment, contributing to ensuring sustainable water management in Rennebu municipality.
